The Top Ten Reasons to Visit Indianapolis?

Following David Letterman’s lead, I tried to make a list. After all, Letterman is from Indy and his mother still lives here.

But I couldn’t narrow it down to just ten. This app has close to 200 reasons, plus almost 1,500 photos, mostly ones that I took with my little Leica. And I’ve already started an update list for even more Indy entries.

An extra that this app has is the “Insider Tips,” little bits that I’ve learned and am sharing to help make your visit even better.

The Hoosier capital city is best known for its Indy 500, Colts, Pacers, sports bars, hosting Super Bowl 2012 and beautiful White River State Park. But it’s also home to more memorials and monuments with more acreage devoted to honoring veterans than any other U.S. city except Washington. D.C.

From the USS Indianapolis memorial of the famed World War II ship that sank and left almost 900 crew members at the mercy of sharks for five days to the final resting place of notorious criminal John Dillinger, Indianapolis has many stores to tell.

Try your hand at one of baseball slugger Babe Ruth’s favorite games (duckpin bowling), munch a breaded tenderloin (the state’s official sandwich), cheer the Indians at Victory Field (dubbed “the best minor league ballpark in America” by Sports Illustrated), climb into an Indy 500 racecar at the Speedway museum, see humongous dinosaurs breaking through The Children’s Museum, take a paddleboat ride down White River Canal, listen to jazz at the place where Mick Jagger is said to have left an unintelligible scrawl and enjoy a cold brew at the state’s oldest tavern (local lore says it also was a house of ill repute).

Incredible Indy has all this and more. So open up this app, put on your walking shoes and discover Indy’s treasures for yourself.
